How to Recover a BitLocker Key

BitLocker is the Windows encryption technology that protects your data from unauthorized access by encrypting your drive and requiring one or more authentication factors before it will unlock. For details, please visit – Finding your Bitlocker recovery key in Windows.

 

To find your BitLocker Recovery Key and unlock your computer, please follow the steps below:

 

1. Press ESC to enter the Bitlocker Recovery mode on the locked device


 

2. Take note of the 32-character Recovery Key ID


 

3. From another device, login to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list then expand the active devices list


 

4. Click 'View Bitlocker Keys'


 

5. Find the Key ID that matches the Recovery Key ID in Step 2 which was displayed on the locked device and click 'Show recovery key'


 

6. Copy down the 48-digit Bitlocker Recovery Key


 

7. Go back to the locked device, enter the BitLocker Recovery Key copied in Step 6 and press Enter


 

8. Login to your device with the original password
