To ensure that Trevecca ITS provides the best security possible for our faculty, students, and staff, we require Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for all Trevecca accounts. Users have their choice of three different methods of MFA including:

  1. Push notification using the Microsoft Authenticator app (for tablets and smartphones)

  1. Text message (for any type of cellular phone)

  1. Phone call (for cellular phones or landlines)

ITS highly recommends using the Microsoft Authenticator app whenever possible as this is by far the easiest and most user-friendly method.

This brief guide will walk you through enabling your MFA.

  1. Upon your first login attempt, you will be advised that more information is now required.

  1. You will be prompted to download the Microsoft Authenticator Application onto your smartphone (if you wish to use a different method, select 'I want to set up a different method' (bottom left) and skip ahead to Step 7 of this guide.

  1. After downloading the mobile authenticator app and launching it, the app will prompt you to allow push notifications. Select 'ALLOW'.

Note: May appear differently on Android OS.

  1. You will be prompted to select which account you want to create. Skip each screen using the 'Skip' button located all the way at the bottom of the screen until you see the following screen:

  1. After selecting Add Account, select 'Work or School Account'. You will then be prompted to allow the app to access your camera. Your camera should then launch.

  1. Select “Next” on your computer screen, and then a QR code should populate. Simply use your phone to photograph the QR code and this will tie the App to your account.

  1. You will be asked to provide your phone number. This provides a redundancy for verification and will not be used for any other purpose. This phone number may be used to obtain a code via text messaging, or setting up a phone call (in the event you would prefer to use a landline).

  1. An App Password will also be generated for you. Should you encounter an app that does not support MFA, this App Password will allow access. This is a rare circumstance. Only save this passcode if needed.

  1. You are all done! Next time you login, you should receive the notification you chose to allow access (push notification, text message, or phone call).
